The genre of my music magazine will be pop and will be aimed at a teenage girl audience aged between 13 and 17.
This age group like mainstream music artists with up to date gossip and exclusive news which is set in an easy to read way. They dislike loads of text about boring things which are out of date.
The price will be £3 which isn't too much for this age group to afford and it will be a monthly magazine so will be a larger magazine so more worth the money.
For the look of my magazine I looked at 'Billboard' and 'Nylon' magazine. I like the way they set out their font covers in the way that they have only one main image with small amounts of text around it. I think it makes it look less confusing and more simple and easier to read. I also think my target audience would want to buy a more grown up looking magazine rather than one which looks too childish like the 'Top of the pops' magazine sometimes does.
The name of the magazine will either be a girly name such as 'Bloom' or something more related to music like 'Replay'.
The house style will be bright with girly colours like pink, purple, yellow and light blue. The fonts will be simple but girly to attract the female audience and will be bold for the masthead and the main cover line and less bold for the other cover lines.
There will be one main image on the front cover of a new girl group, and this will be the group I will focus my double page spread on. The double page spread will be a question and answer interview and there will be more images of the girl group around the text. In it the readers will find out more about the group and how they came about bringing out an album.
The unique selling point to this magazine is that there will be exclusive concert reviews and as well as showing mainstream artists it will also help newer groups get more well known. The inducement for the magazine is that the reader will get a free iTunes download of the new girl groups album as well as two full sized posters of other mainstream artists.
From looking at these magazines I have learnt about the layout of certain magazines and I now have a better idea of what I want to do with my own.

Front Cover + Contents Page Finished
From doing this I have got a better idea of how to use photoshop and I can now use what I have learnt from doing this and use it and improve on my skills for my music magazine. I think that this is quite basic and not very interesting so I can make sure in my next task that I use more detail and use different effects and tools on photoshop to make it better.

Photos I won't use...
I decided I didn't want to use these images. I already had one image of two people 'revising' together and you could see their faces better and this is why I didn't choose to use these two. Even though the other image didn't have eye contact they weren't completely turned away or their faces weren't as hidden as they are in these two photos.

Photos I will use...
These are the photos that I will use for my school magazine. I think that these are the better photos out of all the ones that I took and they will look better in the magazine.

School Magazine
This is my first draft idea for the front cover and contents page for my preliminary exercise. It is just a rough idea and some things will be changed and others will be just modified to suit the computer version of it but this is the idea of what is going to be on it and where abouts.
Although I haven't shown the ideas for the colours I have decided to make them so they will match the school colour scheme, so dark red, yellow and black.
Looking at the Contents Page
When we came to look at the contents page, we had to analyse the use of composition, images, graphics, texts and themes. In our groups we used the same magazine as we did for the front cover which was 'Kerrang!'
The layout of the contents page is simple and can be obviously seen as a contents page, this is clearly shown by the heading at the top of the page 'KERRANG! CONTENTS'. Black boxes with yellow text inside are used for heading for each section of the magazine, which stands out and also helps the reader to chose what they want to read easily. The page numbers are in red which also stands out. The black and yellow and red colours also goes with the theme of the magazine. The main image on the contents page is of 'All time low' advertising the competition where the readers can win tickets to meet the band, this is used because it is one of the main focuses of the magazine and they want people to enter.
From doing this, it helped us to think about how to set out our own contents page. It gave us different ideas on images and texts to use. For example, as a group we liked the idea of having a message from the editor as we thought it made it more personal to the reader and it would be a good feature to have on the contents page.
TAPE Analysis
In groups we looked at a magazine cover and contents page and used TAPE to analyse them both. The magazine we chose was 'Kerrang!' We looked at the type of magazine it was as well as who its audience would be, its purpose and its effectiveness.

From doing this we got a better idea of how to design our own magazine cover and contents page as well as about how to target our audience through different texts and images.
